The European Commission announced that the Neues Museum is the winner of the 2011 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Award. ...... David Chipperfield Architects in collaboration with Julian Harrap received the main prize for the reconstruction of the Neues Museum in Berlin. David Chipperfield, who worked on the project with fellow British architect Julian Harrap, adopted a dynamic approach in his restoration. Rather than attempting to conceal the difference between the old and new elements, the past and present are beautifully combined to create an unforgettable building with multiple layers.More information about the awards, and press clip from the museums's website, along with some videos from the press release.
In the museum's website there are very interesting tools created to give a sense of the visit but in a virtual way by means of the navigation tool virtual architecture tour. As a companion there is a second way to review the visit with the virtual navigation tool with a presentation by the architect himself, superimposed to the HDR panoramic views of the interior.
